Leaving on a Jet Plane (finally)

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Last week I finally got the go-ahead to leave for Denmark! I am so very excited! All of my paperwork is in order, Justin found an apartment (which I am sure is lovely) and my one-way plane ticket has been purchased! I depart on August 21st -- quite soon, really! My mind is in like complete over-drive trying to identify all the things I need to do to get packed up and ready in such a short time!

We had originally wanted to live in the same town that Justin's office is in, but we were unable to find somewhere that fit our needs. So, Justin found an apartment in a nearby city called Vejle -- which happens to be the 9th largest city in the country. He assures me I will love it, and after these nearly three years living in the rural Midwest (much to my displeasure) I am completely ready for a return to urban life!

  1. I am moving to Denmark in October--but will be living 30 to the south of Veijle, in Kolding. My husband has been busy finding me friends in Denmark before we arrive and "A Belle Abroad" sent him your blog, for me. So here I am, saying hello! I am laughing about your comment in a previous post about $14 dollar deodorant running rampant...Hope your move goes well!

  5. Wow ... you must be in a VERY rural midwest place since Vejle is not exactly a hotbed of urban life. Check it out on Google maps ... see all those farms around it; it's a town of about 51,000 while the "greater" Vejle town (kommune) has a population of 104,000 or so most of whom live in even smaller towns in the geographic area known as "Vejle kommune."

Just google "Vejle" and you should get some relevant hits.

    Good luck with it.

  8. annuca: Welcome to Denmark! I ended up arriving the last few days of August, so I am still quite new! As can be expected, a huge change like this is stressful to say the least. For me, the most difficult part will be learning Danish. How are you finding it so far?
