Radishes + Rapunzel

As seen over at covet garden

A teeny-tiny Danish radish

I definitely consider myself more of a vegetable person than a fruit person. I can't think of any vegetable that I don't like in fact! I discovered my love for radishes a couple years ago and frankly, I don't eat them often enough. Back in September I saw this simple little recipe for radish tea sandwiches over at the covet garden blog, and I finally got around to trying them yesterday. So simple, so good! I will definitely be making these again. One could even add roast beef, I suppose, for something a little heartier.

On a side note: radishes always kind of make me chuckle because whenever I eat them I can't help but picture Shelley Duvall in the Faerie Tale Theatre version of Rapunzel eating them like a mad woman. When I start having dreams of killer radishes I will know I have had too many!

Pretzels!

Sunday, April 15, 2012

When a craving strikes while living in a country far from home, there really isn't much one can do about it other than take matters into your own hands. I have been wanting pretzels lately and my very kind friend Tara appeased me! Yesterday afternoon we made soft chewy pretzels (with cheese sauce) together! The first one I made was sort of a misshapen mutant, but all in all, I think we did a pretty good job! The thing that cracked me up was that the recipe we used was called "Mall Pretzels."

Saturday Brunch

Monday, December 19, 2011

I found a cute new place in town called Oda's and had brunch there on Saturday. The food situation in Denmark has turned out to be pretty disappointing -- most restaurants here are pretty blah or downright bad. Way too expensive for nothing special! Eating at home is by far the best choice and my cooking skills have definitely blossomed since being here. But, eating out once in a while is necessary, so I am glad I have another choice!

Fall Cravings - Pumpkin

I could totally go for any one of these right now...

Cupcakes!

Thursday, September 29, 2011

I never got into the whole cupcake craze of a few years ago, but I do enjoy one every now and then. This morning, A Belle Abroad and I went to a new cupcake boutique in town called Den Lille Kagebutik. It was such a nice way to spend a warm and sunny fall morning!

The cupcake I had was excellent (sweet, but not too sweet) as was the frothy latte! We sat outside, but I know I will be back when the weather turns dark and cold to soak in the hyggelig!

Serbian Appetizers

The awesome thing about living in a new country and meeting fellow immigrants is the delicious food they bring from their countries. Saturday night we went to a dinner party hosted by a Serbian couple. Oh goodness, the food was delicious! Among other things we had a chance to try Ćevapi -- a traditional grilled meat dish. It got me thinking... if I ever wind up holding a dinner party, what would I serve that would quintessentially represent American cuisine?
