Danish Holiday - Part Two (Art and Sand)

Thursday, August 2, 2012

A few more pictures from my brother's visit to Denmark...
Aarhus and the West Coast

After Copenhagen, we went to Aarhus, which is the second largest city in the country. I think the highlight for all of us was the art museum -- ARoS. Fortuitously, there was a temporary exhibition of my favorite contemporary artist, Tony Oursler. We were also very lucky that one of my coworkers was kind enough to give us a day tour of the west coast of Denmark. It was so beautiful -- full of dunes, slowly-eroding German bunkers from the Second World War, colorful rocks, and "sea junk." Two very memorable days and a wonderful trip overall!

Danish Holiday - Part One (Around Town and the Big City)

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Vacation came and went much too quickly. I stayed put in Denmark, but my little brother Bennett came to visit. The two weeks off of work were well worth it and much needed. We spent the first couple of days in Vejle, and then the next four in Copenhagen. After living in Denmark for almost a year, it was actually my first time spending any time in the capital city!

We did a ton... anyone who travels with me knows that I like to do and see -- not relax. So, we did and we saw and had a really nice time. Below are some instagrams I snapped while in Vejle and Copenhagen. More to come!

Bennett likes dogs after all/He also really likes sweets and pastries/Vejle has some nice spots, an old church and a nice harbor/Colorful buildings abound in Copenhagen/Changing of the guards at the royal palace/We learned about the work of Jørgen Leth/Visited so many museums and galleries, including the Danish Resistance Museum/Nørrebro turned out to be my kind of neighborhood and reminded us a bit of Chicago for some reason/Gorgeous shops and boutiques are everywhere in Copenhagen/Tivoli was just as breathtaking as everyone says it is/Nyhavn or the "Pretty Harbor" as we referred to it, mandatory for any tourist/Attended some of the Jazz Festival events including John Scofield in a beautiful old theatre/Sebastian and the Little Mermaid/Drank way too much overpriced coffee and ate lots of smørrebrød/Lines from The Room were exchanged frequently throughout the visit/Old buildings/Spelt porridge.

Surroundings

Abandoned bicycles being
absorbed into their surroundings

Well, it's official. I'm a bad blogger! Over here at The Coziness Project anyway. Between work (and working lots of overtime) and Sequential Crush, there just doesn't seem to be much time left... for anything. I am so looking forward to my brother's visit in a week. Definitely need to see some family and take some time to just relax and enjoy my surroundings. Hopefully his visit and our adventures will give me some much needed fuel and inspiration!

Two Years Ago

Monday, December 12, 2011

Today has been a day of reflection for me. Two years ago today, my mom passed away unexpectedly. Life of course has never been quite the same since, and the phrases you always just assumed were cliches beforehand suddenly become all too real... You really do learn to deeply appreciate the short time we have and live every moment to its fullest. Or try to at least.

Cleaning Out the Camera: Part One - A Milwaukee Alley

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

I recently remembered that I took a few pictures when I was in Wisconsin visiting family just before leaving the States in August. Not many but just enough to share, so I dug out the ol' point and shoot. These ones were taken while in the Historic Third Ward of Milwaukee with my little brother and his girlfriend (who is pictured). I just never seem to be able to get enough of urban alleyways... the bricks... the fire escapes...

This Day in 1915

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

My paternal grandfather was born November 15th, 1915. Although he has been gone for a few years now, I am always reminded of him -- his sense of humor, his dedication to his art, and his larger than life personality. I am truly blessed to have had his influence in my life and I will always miss him... no matter how many years pass by.
