Cupcakes!

Thursday, September 29, 2011

I never got into the whole cupcake craze of a few years ago, but I do enjoy one every now and then. This morning, A Belle Abroad and I went to a new cupcake boutique in town called Den Lille Kagebutik. It was such a nice way to spend a warm and sunny fall morning!

The cupcake I had was excellent (sweet, but not too sweet) as was the frothy latte! We sat outside, but I know I will be back when the weather turns dark and cold to soak in the hyggelig!

Things Fall Apart

Monday, September 26, 2011

We passed by this decaying home on Sunday and I just stood there looking at it -- mesmerized. I am not quite sure why, but I love buildings that are states of disrepair. Fuel for the imagination, I suppose...

New Tastes

Serbian Appetizers

The awesome thing about living in a new country and meeting fellow immigrants is the delicious food they bring from their countries. Saturday night we went to a dinner party hosted by a Serbian couple. Oh goodness, the food was delicious! Among other things we had a chance to try Ćevapi -- a traditional grilled meat dish. It got me thinking... if I ever wind up holding a dinner party, what would I serve that would quintessentially represent American cuisine?

On Not Having Closets

Friday, September 16, 2011

The garment racks arrived and
the clothes are out of the suitcases
!

Our new apartment is quite nice -- fully-equipped kitchen, huge windows with lots of light and well-maintained hardwood floors. Now that we are starting to acquire more furniture, it is definitely starting to feel homier. One downfall of it is that there aren't any closets! At first I was a little weary, but really, it isn't that bad and it will surely prevent us from accumulating needless clutter!

The girls over at Red Velvet have a new lookbook video for their Autumn 2011 collection! Fun and cute as always! Diggin' that song, too!!!

Glimpse of Fall

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

We saw the first glimpse of fall 'round these parts. Not sure if the Autumnal season in Denmark will deliver as much beauty as it does in Midwestern American, but here's to hoping!

Sunday at the Fjord

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

The weather was gorgeous over the weekend, so we continued to explore our new city, Vejle. On Sunday we sat down by the fjord and took in the sights -- boats, people fishing, and industrial buildings. Our sort of thing.

Currently Diggin' - Rookie

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Today I came across the brand spankin' new site, Rookie. Created and edited by 15-year old fashion blogger, Tavi Gevinson, Rookie chronicles the ups and downs of teenage-hood. Not only does the site look great, the content is meaty and age-appropriate. Definitely something I will pass on to my little sister who just started high school. Oh where, oh where was the blogosphere when I was a teen?!

"Rookie is a place to make the best of the beautiful pain and cringe-worthy awkwardness of being an adolescent girl."

My Romance Comics

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

All my comic books are still in suitcases. This may be how I roll for a while until proper shelving and boxes can be purchased!

Vejle by Night

Monday, September 5, 2011

A few pictures from the Friday evening event, Vejle by Night. We just stumbled on it while out walking, but enjoyed the music, people watching, and peeking into the area shops. The rest of the weekend was spent putting more furniture together, attending a Saturday night house party, and watching movies. Here's to hoping you had a great weekend!

Domesticity and Windmills

Friday, September 2, 2011

So far, our adventures together in Denmark have primarily consisted of getting domestically situated. Buying and assembling furniture, getting our grocery budget down, figuring out our new slightly miniature European appliances, and taking care of paperwork, have occupied most of our time for the past week and a half.

A few days ago we did have some time to walk around our neighborhood and explore a bit. There is quite a nice windmill (which was operational until 1960) up in the hills of Vejle. If it weren't for a strategically placed tree, we would have a terrific view of it from our apartment! Along the way, we met a friendly and persistent cat and took in the Danish architecture. Hopefully, over the next couple of days we will get a little break from all the housework and enjoy Justin's birthday weekend!
