Dreamy Vintage Shoot for Mod Closet

Friday, July 29, 2011

A few months ago I had the good fortune to meet Doni Funkhouser -- proprietress of a lovely vintage clothing store in Elkhart, Indiana called Mod Closet. The shop is a treasure trove of groovy clothes, accessories, and housewares from the 1960s and '70s. Doni recently styled a commercial for her burgeoning boutique, and below is the extended cut!

Gorgeous! The ad is charming and captures the essence and fun of wearing vintage. Bravo, Doni and crew!!! Though I will no longer be in the area to shop at Mod Closet, I wish all the success in the world to Doni and her blossoming small business!

Leaving on a Jet Plane (finally)

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Last week I finally got the go-ahead to leave for Denmark! I am so very excited! All of my paperwork is in order, Justin found an apartment (which I am sure is lovely) and my one-way plane ticket has been purchased! I depart on August 21st -- quite soon, really! My mind is in like complete over-drive trying to identify all the things I need to do to get packed up and ready in such a short time!

We had originally wanted to live in the same town that Justin's office is in, but we were unable to find somewhere that fit our needs. So, Justin found an apartment in a nearby city called Vejle -- which happens to be the 9th largest city in the country. He assures me I will love it, and after these nearly three years living in the rural Midwest (much to my displeasure) I am completely ready for a return to urban life!

Good Reads

Thursday, July 7, 2011

I have always loved magazines. The glossiness... the advertising... the layouts! I love it all! In the past, I have had the tendency to save favorites, but with my latest moving endeavor, toting magazines from home to home is no longer an option.* Magazines are also really expensive without a subscription. Enter online magazines! Many are free, take up no physical space, and are just as gorgeous as their printed counterparts. Here are some of my favorites featuring fashion, interiors, crafts and photography! Click on each to take you to the mag!

I still love the ephemeral feel of an actual paper magazine, but until I get settled in Denmark, these will have to satiate! Do you have any favorite online magazines to share?

*I am kind of sad to get rid of my issues of the now-defunct, Domino! Maybe a few of those will have to go into storage?

A Lot of Laughs Were Had

Saturday, July 2, 2011

I had a wonderful week visiting with my brother, Bennett! It had been a long time since we had a few days just to hang out and not worry about schedules, jobs and the general responsibilities of life!

After picking him up from the train in Michigan, we walked around downtown South Bend, Indiana. The Monkees were playing that night, but we ultimately decided to forgo purchasing the quite expensive tickets. Later, we randomly happened on a park with a variety of geese, ducks and other fowl.

On Wednesday we visited an Amish town in Indiana called Shipshewana. During the summer they hold a huge flea market with tons of oddities (a giant log house, anyone?) as well as tons of produce and other foodstuffs. I am really glad I had a chance to visit the little town once more before leaving the country.

Overall, it was a great week and I was sad to see my little bro go back home!
